Visual Media Server · XDR-VMS

The picture no longer stops at the screen.

The processing platform behind the XDR5-8K. One system drives the main wall and every surface around it — and layers documents, widgets, tickers and live feeds over the picture, anywhere you want them.

The XDR-VMS server in front of three curved display walls showing a lakeside landscape with a football game, a basketball game, a document, weather, market and live-score panels layered over it

The idea

One server. Every surface.

A video wall has always been one rectangle. The Visual Media Server treats the whole room as the canvas: the main wall, the columns beside it, whatever else is lit — all driven together, all part of one picture.

Surfaces

The wall, and beyond it

The main display plus the side-wall columns, driven from one system so a scene runs across all of them.

Destinations

A room that changes

A coastline, a stadium, a lobby — video and stills composed across every surface, changing with what is on.

Layering

Anything, over the picture

Documents, widgets, tickers and feeds placed over live video, in windows of any size, anywhere.

Virtual destinations

The Room Becomes the Picture

Three LED columns on each side wall, and the main wall between them — seven surfaces, one server. The room is the same in every state. Only what it shows changes.

A private theater with a film on the main wall and the side-wall columns unlit, showing their wood-slat finish The same theater with a mountain lake on the main wall and the landscape continuing onto the six side-wall columns The same theater during a football game, with each team's banners and players on the three columns of its own side wall The same theater with a wall of film posters on the main wall and more posters on each side-wall column

A virtual destination · The landscape continues onto the side walls

The wall stopped being the edge of the picture.

Layered content

A Canvas Over the Canvas

On top of whatever the room is showing, the server places windows — a document, a weather panel, the markets, live scores, a ticker — each any size, anywhere on the wall, one able to sit over another. The picture at the top of this page is that: a game, a second game, a briefing, and the day’s numbers, over a lakeside view.

Windows of any size, anywhere

Each source gets a window. Size it, place it, layer it over another. Nothing is locked to a grid.

Live, not slides

Feeds, tickers and widgets update as they happen. What is on the wall is what is happening now.

Native 8K on the main wall

The main picture runs at the wall’s native resolution over HDMI‑2.1 — the same processing that drives every XDR5-8K.

Part of the system

The Visual Media Server is the XDR5-8K’s processing platform, not an add-on: specified, installed, calibrated and supported by Quantum with the display.

In the architecture

The Same Server, in a Living Room

A theater is one kind of room. In a living room the wall is part of the architecture, and the server treats it that way. The backdrop is a source like any other — a wood-panel surface rendered by the display — with the programme floating on top of it, framed by the material rather than stranded in a black rectangle. And when nothing is on, the destination is a work of art.

Three sports feeds layered on a dark walnut slat surface rendered by the display An impressionist coastal seascape in a white mat and black frame A live morning programme floated as a single window on a light oak slat backdrop A geometric block composition in a thin black frame

Three feeds on dark walnut · The backdrop is a source too

A destination does not have to move.
